As a franchise based business system, Mr Rental relies on quality information and the ability to measure performance against preset standards and budgets; while making meaningful comparisons across a number of different peer groups, such as regions and states, demographic base, length of operation, resource base, management group, etc. We have been working with Access Management Corporation (AMC) to analyse and refine our data collection processes and reporting requirements for use with AMC's myYardstick benchmarking product. With AMC's assistance, we believe we now have the ability to meet our objectives of measurable performance against standards and meaningful comparisons across specified peer groups. Importantly for Mr Rental, AMC's myYardstick provides a medium that is accessible to our various stakeholders, is timely in providing outputs, and flexible enough to allow us to determine our own peer groups and measurement tools. ^ Return to topWe have been using Access Management Corporation's myYardstick business benchmarking every month. Being able to compare our performance against similar businesses in our industry has given us the opportunity to regularly review operational performance and, where applicable, make changes. The reports are now used as a part of our regular business performance reporting. At MPA, we pride ourselves on the relentless pursuit of 'best practice'. This means engaging with business tools that can identify gaps in our performance as well as reinforce the things we are doing well. The Business Wisdom diagnostic is such a tool and allows us to conduct a comprehensive “check-up” on our business. The diagnostic covered 4 areas surrounding money/finance, customers/marketing, process/systems and HR/staff. While the areas covered were extensive, it was easy to complete online in about 30 minutes. The final report identified both strengths and improvement opportunities and in some areas provided confirmation of what our “gut feel” had been telling us. The report included a summary of results but also provided a range of practical suggestions on how to improve in key areas. I found Business Wisdom to be an ideal tool for use as an annual check-up to measure business improvement and would recommend it to other organisations seeking an independent diagnosis for the broad range of key issues within their business or as a precursor to the business planning process. |
